Flatcat

A flatcat is a small carnivorous animal indigenous to [Kampos (Ellis IV)](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/RAXxrxr7M5-kampos-ellis-iv). Because it evolved on a high-gravity world, the flatcat has a wide, squat body and stocky, muscular legs. A social animal, it lives in groups of between two and forty individuals in its natural habitat. During dawn and dusk when they are most active, flatcats hunt together, sometimes taking down prey much larger than themselves. Their resemblance to the domestic cat endeared them to the people of the [United Empire of Earth](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/VyvyKxy4v6-united-empire-of-earth) (UEE) and sparked a trend for pet flatcats in the early 30th century SEY that proved short-lived when their natural strength and tendency to scent-mark surfaces showed that they were not suited for indoor living. However, the animal still has some enthusiasts, and there are multiple breeding programs on Kampos dedicated to creating a true domestic flatcat.
