Perseus

The Perseus is a large gunship manufactured by [Roberts Space Industries (RSI)](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/RWwZDn2Xrw-rsi). First developed in 2528 for the [United Planets of Earth Navy (UPEN)](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/0QxBjKP2PN-united-planets-of-earth), it was used in blockades and security patrols, most notably the Incident at Red Ridge in 2529. It became a mainstay along the former [Perry Line](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/V8gJQMY9mO-perry-line) after [Xi'an-Human First Contact](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/R4ZQpYEEvx-xian-human-first-contact) in 2530. In 2863, it was retired from production at RSI. In 2946, [Admiral Ernst Bishop](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/ReJaavPB3k-ernst-bishop) witnessed an aging Perseus participate in [Operation Mandrake](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/bZkdG98WNE-operation-mandrake) and requested that an updated Perseus-class fleet be put into production. After the creation of the [Militia Mobilization Initiative](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/RkZ96m89Jm-militia-mobilization-initiative), RSI expanded development to include a civilian version. The new Perseus, equipped with modernized weapons and a redesigned lower deck, was released in 2950.
