Cyrene (Virgil I)

Virgil I, nicknamed Cyrene, is the first planet from the sun of the [Virgil system](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/RvlBgYrvEY-virgil-system), located in [Vanduul territory](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/RPDAMLKP74-vanduul-territory). The only [terraforming](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/V3qgj8vjnj-terraforming) candidate when the system was discovered, it was quickly turned into a beautiful and warm world with exceptionally fertile soil. It was on track to receive recognition from the [United Empire of Earth](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/VyvyKxy4v6-united-empire-of-earth)(UEE) [Senate](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/VaZn8OqaNZ-senate) until SEY 2732, when the [Vanduul](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/VpGPp92gdO-vanduul) invaded the neighboring [Tiber system](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/RMNLm97EDj-tiber-system) and Cyrene was transformed into a military stronghold. When [Tiber fell](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/0OaBY5pGrq-siege-of-tiber) in 2736, the Vanduul immediately flooded into the system and launched an attack on Cyrene, dropping countless bombs and destroying nearly all life on the planet. Today, the atmosphere is poisonous, and the once warm environment is deep in nuclear winter.
